The Cardiovascular System is the life-line for human survival these monthly tips will help with the maintenance, however they are not meant to replace proper consult with a physician in regards to cardiac problems. Cardiac Chain of SurvivalThe American Heart Association utilizes what is known as The Chain of Survival Concept which summarizes the most affective steps in early treatment for cardiac arrest patients. These steps are as follows: 1. Early Access – This means that the person who sees someone collapse or finds someone unresponsive calls 911 as soon as possible. All workplace environments should have emergency services stickers visible on telephones to make this process as easy as possible. 2. Early CPR – Early CPR can increase survival significantly. It is important to be familiar with the surroundings and environment so that if emergency personal is responding access is as easy as possible. It is also important to have regular CPR courses available for your employees to ensure the earliest possible treatment. 3. Early Defibrillation – It has been proven most recently that early defibrillation is the most effective means of survival in cardiac patients. A defibrillator is a machine that delivers a shock to the heart to help restart the rhythm process. These devices are easy to use but require training to do so. It is important to get treatment to the patient within 8 min of cardiac arrest (either defibrillator or CPR) or the patient may not recover. 4. Early Advanced Care – This is the point in which emergency personal or individuals with higher levels of training arrive to take over care. They will also have the necessary equipment to continue advanced care as needed.
